Three-seater sofa with loose cushion, four back legs and two front legs. The legs have a square cross-section. The remaining composite parts are recessed into the legs. Probably the bench was later repainted. The sofa can be considered an early example of furniture designed according to the principles of De Stijl. Instead of having two surfaces end up cold on top of each other, Van 't Hoff designed the corners of the bench as a gradual build-up of encounters of horizontal and vertical parts. This plastic corner construction was inspired by the work of American architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Wright was not only an important influence on Van 't Hoff, the other members of De Stijl also recognized Wright's innovative contribution in the field of spatial design.
