Bayer was born 05.04.1900 in Haag (Austria). Educated in Linz at the studio of Georg Schmidthammer (1919-20), in Darmstadt at the studio of Emanuel Margold (1921), and at the Bauhaus (1921-25).
He remains at the Bauhaus until 1928, then leaves for Berlin.
Emigrates to the U.S. in 1938.
