Boerée, Chatariné Heripsimé Marie
C.H.M. Boeree (1898-1995)
At the time, Chathariné (Riné) Boeree was one of the few women working in engineering. After the HBS in The Hague, she went to study Architecture at the Technische Hogeschool in Delft in 1919. In 1923 she and her half-sister Mia bought a house in Oestgeest, where both would live for the rest of her life. In 1929, she graduated in Delft as a structural engineer.
Boerée was the eldest daughter of professional soldier Henri Boerée. Her grandfather was an engineer-supervisor at the Department of Public Works. After her studies, she worked first as a draughtswoman in temporary service with the Government Buildings Department. In 1933, again in temporary service, she was hired at the Dienst der Genie in The Hague, which was responsible for the development, construction and maintenance of all military works.
During her working life, Riné Boeree developed into a specialist in a new building technique: reinforced concrete structures. She herself said of this in 1995 that she was "good at reinforced concrete. Her interest in this building technique received an important impulse through her involvement in the construction of the Nirwana Flat (1928-1930) and the Alexander Barracks (1935-1938), both in The Hague.
During World War II, she was laid off and worked from 1943 to early 1945 at N.V. Wernink's Beton Maatschappij in Leiden, a company that built reinforced concrete shelters, among other things. After World War II, she rejoined the Corps of Engineers. In 1949 she received a permanent appointment and worked at the Bureau of Airfield Construction, Management and Maintenance (BABOV) until her retirement in 1964. This bureau took care of the construction and maintenance of military airfields.
Riné Boeree died in 1995.
