Hilversum architect A.H. van Wamelen was born in The Hague. In 1937 he participated in the Raadhuis competition in Amsterdam. Van Wamelen designed many housing developments in Hilversum and its surroundings. In 1920 he designed the Frisiawoningen in Amersfoort, on the Borgesiuslaan and the Piersonlaan, among others. The design of these Frisia houses was made in the style of the Amsterdam School. The houses have an unusual thatched roof and wide window strips and received much attention in professional journals. Also in 1920, Van Wamelen designed houses for the new Indian neighborhood in Nijmegen. In 1921 in Bussum, Van Wamelen designed 26 houses in the Vondelkwartier (Brederodelaan 4-14 and 5-15, Oud Bussummerweg 41-47 and 57-67 and Tesselschadelaan 7-9 and 16-18). These houses now belong to the national protected sight Bussum - Brediuskwartier. At the same time he designed 6 more houses on Huizerweg and Jozef Israëlslaan. Van Wamelen's houses in Bussum were all semi-detached houses in three different types. In 1925, the Protestant Housing Association had a block of 68 houses and two stores built in Tuindorp Buiksloterham to a design by Van Wamelen. These houses were also in the style of the Amsterdam School. The block of houses was located between Latherusstraat and Clematisstraat in the Bloemenbuurt neighborhood. In 1933, Van Wamelen designed a house in the Baarn villa district of Pekingpark, commissioned by Mrs. M. de Zwart. The house was given the shape of a large round African hut following the client's travels. Because of its pristine condition of interior and exterior, the house is a gem in Van Wamelen's oeuvre of work. In 1952, Van Wamelen designed a house in the Delft School style in Leusden.
