Franciscus Hendrikus Welschen is best known as a pioneer of system construction in the Netherlands and thus a forerunner of modern industrialized housing construction. Before the Second World War, experimental housing complexes were erected on Heer Kerstantstraat and Grote Markt - Botersloot in Rotterdam; after that, the housing complex on Talmastraat in Rotterdam was the impetus for a total of more than 5,600 so-called "Welschen houses" in various places in the Netherlands.
