J.C. de Haas (1882-1968) Jan Cornelis de Haas (Amsterdam, 1882) trained as an architectural supervisor and architectural draftsman at the Academy of Visual Arts and Technical Sciences in Rotterdam. After his training, he went to work at the Municipal Works Department in Arnhem and then as a municipal architect in Utrecht. In 1927, De Haas became a member of the City Council for the SDAP in Utrecht and at the same time established himself as an independent architect. As an architect, he was particularly active in Utrecht. Among other things, he designed flats on Johan Wagenaarkade, houses on Oudenoord, Maliebaan and Bremstraat, and the building of the metalworkers' union on Lange Hagelstraat. Still in his advanced sixties, De Haas supervised the construction of De Utrechtse Jaarbeurs from the municipality. De Haas has always been very socially involved. He championed popular education and was active in the temperance society. De Haas was regent of the Stadsambacht children's hospital and board member of the Julianapark Foundation. He died in 1968.
