L.N. Krijgsman (1895-1961) Leendert Nicolaas Krijgsman jr. Krijgsman was born in 1895 in the municipality of Hillegersberg near Rotterdam. He goes to Rotterdam for his education at the Crafts School from 1908-1911 and his further education at the Academy of Visual Arts and Technical Sciences. Here he graduates in 1917, after which in 1920 he starts working as an independent architect in his birthplace, the municipality of Hillegersberg. Krijgsman works mainly locally, completing commissions in the municipality of Hillegersberg and the neighboring municipalities of Schiebroek and Overschie. All three were annexed by Rotterdam in 1941. Krijgsman died in 1961. The archive, which is held by the NAI, focuses on the 1920s and 1930s. During this period, Krijgsman builds a large number of schools in Hillegersberg, Schiebroek and Overschie, including the Emmaschool for primary education on Kerkstraat in Hillegersberg, and a number of churches, including the Dutch Reformed Oranjekerk on Rozenlaan in Hillegersberg (1933-1934). The archive also contains his designs for a store and "meat ware factory" for the van Wensveen brothers and a carosser's factory on Willem van Hildegaersbergstraat, both in Hillegersberg, and a boys' and girls' boarding school for the association "Zoekt het Verlorene" in Schiebroek and Hillegersberg, respectively. He designed several villas, including a villa on Straatweg and his own home on Kleiweg, both in Hillegersberg. His 1941 design for 340 houses in the polder 110 Morgen in Hillegersberg was not carried out: the construction freeze forced the housing association 'Onze Woning' to shelve the plans in 1942. In 1955, they proved outdated and another design was realized.
