F.W.H. Lensvelt (1886-1945)
Frederik Willem Hendrik (Frits, also known as "Lens") Lensvelt was a groundbreaking stage-decor designer, particularly in the 1910s, being especially innovative with his stage lighting. In the 1920s, Lensvelt shifted his activities to interior design, again paying particular attention to lighting. He gained great fame with the "Lensvelt lamp.
Lamps by Lensvelt were applied, among other things: in 1928 in the council chamber of the Amsterdam Town Hall; in 1932 in the Dominicus Church in Utrecht; in 1933 in all rooms in the Council House in Enschede (in collaboration with architect G. Friedhoff); in 1934 on the ship Indrapoera; also in 1934 in a restaurant near Schiphol Airport; in 1937 in the church of First Church of Christ, Scientist in Amsterdam (in collaboration with architect G. Friedhoff); in 1939 in the meeting room of the Javasche Bank on Keizersgracht in Amsterdam (architects Posthumus Meyjes & Van der Linden); in 1940 in the meeting room of the Algemeene Nederlandsch-Indische Electriciteit Maatschappij (ANIEM), Keizersgracht 369-377 in Amsterdam (architects Kleinhout & Van der Steur).
Lensvelt also provided covers for printed matter (books; and in 1922 an issue of Wendingen), book illustrations, and calligraphy.
