Tepe, Wilhelm Victor Alfred

Alfred Tepe (Amsterdam 1840 - Düsseldorf 1920) received classical training at the Bau-Akademie in Berlin from 1861-1864 and studied mathematics at Münster. From 1865 to 1867 Alfred Tepe was employed by Vincent Statz in Cologne and between 1867 and 1872 he made study trips from Amsterdam. Tepe lived in Utrecht from 1872 to 1884, where he built a house on Maliebaan and had an important place in the St. Bernulphus guild. In this he worked closely with F.W. Mengelberg, the Guild's sculptor. Tepe's oeuvre covers a period between 1873 and 1905 and includes some 70 churches, executed in brick and inspired by late Lower Rhenish and Westphalian Gothic. The most important churches: - St. Martinus at Arnhem (1875) - St. Nicolaas in Jutphaas (1875) - St. Willibrord, Utrecht (1876/77) - St. Michaël, Schalkwijk (1879) - St. Franciscus Xaverius, Amsterdam (1883) - St. Nicolaas, IJsselstein (1887) Also built churches in Germany and was involved in extensions of old churches in the Netherlands such as in Haaksbergen and St. Catharina in Utrecht. Tepe also built the Orphanage on the Maliesingel in Utrecht.
