L. Brandts Buys
Loek Brandts Buys (Warnsveld, 1908), who came from a family that had produced musicians generation after generation, chose a completely different direction and in 1928 went to study architecture at the Technische Hogeschool in Delft. Brandts Buys was a staunch supporter of the conservative Delft School of M.J. Granpré Molière. After his studies, he went to work for the Wieringermeer Directorate. During World War II, he made a historical study of rural architecture in the Dutch North Quarter. The result was a monumental standard work on West Frisian farms that was not published until 1974. During and after World War II, he worked at the Bureau for the Reconstruction of Farmhouses. After the war he was employed by the Provincial Groningen Beauty Commission, among others, and in 1960 he was one of the founders of the Historical Farm Research Foundation. From 1969 to 1978, Brandts Buys worked at the Dutch Open Air Museum in Arnhem. Brandts Buys died in 1983.
