F. van der Sluys (1919-1989)
Frits van der Sluys (also spelled Sluijs) was deputy to the chief director of the municipal department of reconstruction and urban development in The Hague, and was appointed director of the urban development department on January 1, 1956. The Mariahoeve neighborhood in The Hague was realized between 1957 and 1964 to the urban design of Van der Sluys. The urban design of the district is unusual. Inspired by Scandinavian examples, Van der Sluys created a great diversity in building form, subdivision and special urban variations within a spacious, green environment. The pursuit of spatial but also social composition and diversity characterized the concept of the time.
