Joseph Ferdinand ("Eppo") Doeve (Bandung (Dutch East Indies), July 2, 1907 - Amsterdam, June 11, 1981) achieved fame primarily as a draftsman, designer and book binding designer. In 1927 Doeve left Bandung to settle in Wageningen, where he studied at the Agricultural College. During his studies, he was a member of the Wageningen Student Association Ceres and co-founder of the Ceres Band. Before World War II he worked for several opinion magazines. From shortly after the liberation of the Netherlands until his death, he worked for Elseviers Weekblad. He provided the magazine with a weekly political print and made illustrations for reports. In 1948 he designed the first poster of the newly founded Holland Festival. Doeve illustrated advertising campaigns for Heineken and Philips, among others. In addition, he designed sets and drew covers for many of the early Prisma Pockets. He also painted portraits. In the 1950s he was responsible for the Dutch banknotes: the series Erflaters I with portraits of great Dutchmen from the past. The artist was a member of Arti et Amicitiae in Amsterdam. Since April 1973 he was Knight of the Order of Orange Nassau, the decoration was presented to him by Ivo Samkalden than Mayor of Amsterdam.
