Attended the M.T.S. in Zwolle. He then worked at various architectural offices and in 1900 associated with D. de Herder in Zwolle, settled in Hengelo (O.), after which he moved to The Hague in 1914. In the competitions for a bank building in Tilsit, theater in Lochem and town hall in Rijssen, he was awarded a prize and entrusted with the execution of the work. - His design won first prize in the competition for workers' housing in Veendam. - Also for Romania he made plans for office buildings, which were executed there. - Further, he built many villas in Veendendaal, Hilversum, Texel, Enschede, Hengelo, Putten, schools in Vriezenveen and Hengelo (G.), town halls in Vriezenveen, Holten and Rijssen, while in 1905, after the big fire in Vriezenveen, he was charged by the town council with the reconstruction. He designed villa parks in Lochem and Heemstede, while he built various factories, hotels, cafes and farms, including a model farm in Vaassen and one in Haaksbergen. In The Hague he built a great deal and was appointed by the city council to build part of the Marlot villa park. - For several years he was co-editor of Architectura and editor of Bouwfragmenten. Interior design also found in him a diligent practitioner. He took a great interest in poultry breeding and was an organizer and judge at many exhibitions.
