F.B. Sturm (1879-1955), L.F.A.M. Sturm (1910-1985) and C. Sturm Franciscus Bernard Sturm was born at Waterlandskerkje in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen on September 23, 1879. In 1899 he moved from Schoondijke to Roosendaal. He was then a carpenter, but shortly thereafter went to work at the architectural firm of M. Vergouwen. From 1917 he worked independently for some time, after which he joined the architectural firm Bennaars. After the death of this architect in 1924, Sturm was put in charge of this firm. Architect F.B. Sturm married Johanna Maria Antonia Bruglemans (born 06-06-1882) on October 28, 1908. The couple lived on Brugstraat and had six children. Sturm worked in Roosendaal and in West Brabant: there he designed factory buildings, hospitals, monasteries, schools and housing complexes (Woningstichting Sint-Joseph, Roosendaal). He drew many large projects for various religious orders, especially for the Franciscan Sisters Recollectines of Roosendaal. Sturm died in Roosendaal on April 3, 1955. The oldest son of F.B. Sturm, Leonardus Franciscus Antonius Maria (Leo), was born in Roosendaal on May 21, 1910. He studied architecture at the TH in Delft from 1922 to 1933, where he was a student of Prof. M.J. Granpré Molière. Leo Sturm settled in Roosendaal and married Maria Carolina Josepha Brabers in 1939. Leo Sturm was a follower of the Delft School, which is evident in his work. After his studies, he worked with his father on several projects. He designed many residential houses, was involved in reconstruction projects after World War II and became known for several school buildings. He died in Roosendaal on February 1, 1985. His sons Frans and Karel (also named Charles) continued the firm. F.B. Sturm had another son who became an architect: Constant. He studied in Delft and designed, among other things, the (now demolished) Antonius Church on Brugstraat in Roosendaal.
