Graduated from an HTS for structural engineering. Working as an architect since 1965. For many years he worked at the office of architect Bodon, including on the RAI convention center, and then for two years he had a small independent architectural office. When this office could no longer handle the work and manpower was needed at the architektengroep Verster, Dijkstra, Cannegieter (see VERS,DIJ1,CANN) for the Amsterdam district court, Loerakker made the switch. The name of the firm changed to architektengroep Verster, Dijkstra, Loerakker and in 1975 to bv architektengroep VDL. Since then there have been a number of name and person changes; in 1981 Kees Rijnboutt and Hans Ruijssenaars joined the bv (see RIJN,RUIJ). In 1988, Gert Jan Hendriks (see HEND) joined and the name became architects Loerakker Rijnboutt Ruijssenaars Hendriks bv. In 1989, Loerakker was appointed professor at TU Eindhoven.
