With some savings and a loan, in 1925 Staal rented a storefront with upstairs apartment in the center of Hengelo, Enschedeschestraat 6. On May 27, "De Twentsche Fotohandel" is opened, the first photo specialty store in Hengelo. The photo store has grown into a thriving business and it is necessary to look for larger premises. A house at Marktplein 7 was bought and converted into a store with two floors. On November 11, 1930, the Staal family moved in above the photo store on the Marktplein. In 1947 after a remodeling of the building on the Burgemeester Jansenplein (formerly Marktplein), a portrait studio is put into operation, under the name "Foto Studio Staal."
