White, Cornelis de
Cor de Wit (Donkerbroek, January 2, 1922 - Twello, January 12, 2018) was a Dutch architect, publicist and glass collector.
Biography
De Wit trained as an architect at Delft University of Technology and was president of the Union of Dutch Architects from 1972 to 1979. He was involved in the Goed Wonen Foundation and partly through that position he knew many modernist architects such as Mart Stam and Piet Zwart. He published several works on modern architects, designers, and later self-published several essays.
De Wit was married to Sjoukje Jelsma (1920-2009). They collected Scandinavian glass in particular, both unica and factory glass, beginning in the 1970s. They donated their collection of 800 pieces to Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. In 2012, the museum organized an exhibition about and with pieces of Finnish glass from this collection; they specially collected Finnish glass from the 1950s, from the so-called "Finnish Golden Years," about which De Wit also published.
De Wit died in early 2018, ten days after his 96th birthday.
