B. Kazemier (1875-1967) Bonne Kazemier was born in Kollum in 1875. After training in practice, Kazemier begins as an independent architect. Following the expansion plan of J.A. Mulock Houwer, which includes construction of new neighborhoods around Groningen's inner city, Kazemier designs, together with the architects Van Elmpt and Van der Wint, various types of housing for garden village De Hoogte (1917-1921). The garden village should help alleviate the urgent housing shortage in the area. In 1917 Kazemier starts an agency together with Tonko Tonkens. The duo builds mainly in the Groningen region. One of their first assignments is a design for social housing commissioned by housing association Gruno, founded in 1919 by railroad workers. For the Groningen Gruno neighborhood (1920-1928), they realized blocks of two- and three-story houses in an austere variant of the Amsterdam School style. As with De Hoogte, the neighborhood was given an enclosed character by surrounding the inner buildings with higher closed walls. The housing around Groningen's Kooykerplein, completed in 1928, is also by Kazemier and Tonkens. Business premises also belong to their oeuvre, such as the Deck Cloth Warehouse for the firm Waterborg, completed in 1923, and the design for a bank building on Rijksstraatweg in Haren (1939) for the trading house Mesdag en Zonen. In addition to their daily practice as architects, both devoted themselves in the evenings to the Voorbereidend Bouwkunst Onderricht in Groningen, with Tonkens acting as course leader and Kazemier as one of the teachers. In 1940 Kazemier and Tonkens draw a line under their cooperation. Kazemier continues independently and designs, among other things, housing on Hyacinthstraat for Woningbouwvereniging 'Groningen' (1953-1956). Kazemier dies in 1967. Note: the oeuvre of B.
