On May 27, 1925, "De Twentsche Fotohandel" is opened, the first photo specialty store in Hengelo. The photo store grew into a thriving business and it was necessary to look for larger premises. A house at Marktplein 7 was bought and converted into a store with two floors. On November 11, 1930, the Staal family moved in above the photo store on the Marktplein. In 1947 after a remodeling of the building on the Burgemeester Jansenplein (formerly Marktplein), a portrait studio is put into operation, under the name "Foto Studio Staal."
