Schoemaker, C.P.
Schoemaker was born in the Dutch East Indies, the eldest of three children of Jan Prosper Schoemaker and Josephine Charlotte Wolff.
In 1919, he petitioned the government to change his name by adding his mother's last name, Wolff. In 1921, he received official permission to change his name to Wolff Schoemaker. This was more commonly done in the Dutch East Indies to elevate status in order to improve one's position in the complicated Indian class society.
