Th. Stuivinga (1880-1959), J. Stuivinga (1881-1962) and J.J. Tuynenburg Muys (1916-1994) The brothers Theo and Jan Stuivinga (Ruinerwold, 1880 and Zwolle, 1881 respectively) were educated at the Rotterdam Academy of Architecture and Technical Sciences. After graduation, Theo went to work at the Department of Public Works. Jan worked as a draughtsman for various architects (including Henri Evers), participated in competitions, and traveled through Germany and Belgium in 1905 and 1906 to further master his craft. In 1906 Jan Stuivinga won the competition for the town hall in Zeist. When the contract was awarded in 1907, he and his brother established themselves as architects in Zeist. Over the years, commissions from Zeist and the surrounding area followed. In addition to country houses and schools, the brothers designed a series of hospitals in Zeist, Assen, Winterswijk, Utrecht, Naarden-Bussum, Schiedam, Amersfoort and Rotterdam. Over time, the brothers worked with various architects, including H.G. Krijgsman. Around 1950, J.J. Tuynenburg Muys (1916-1994) joined the firm. Johannes Tuynenburg Muys began studying architecture at the Technische Hogeschool in Delft in 1938. His studies were interrupted during World War II, so he did not graduate until 1951. Tuynenburg Muys would gradually take over leadership of the firm in the 1950s. After the deaths of Theo and Jan, he continued the firm as Tuynenburg Muys. The firm remained focused on building and remodeling hospitals, working on projects in Woerden and Utrecht, among others. In addition, the Pon family (car dealership) was also a regular client of the firm. Around 1975, the firm was dissolved.
