D. Apon, J. van den Berg, A. ter Braak and W. Tromp began working together in 1955. Their firm is based in Rotterdam. In 1989, the firm merges with Blom Architects from Rijsbergen. Apon withdraws from the firm in 1991. The Rotterdam firm Apon-Van den Berg-Ter Braak-Tromp (ABBT) was founded as a partnership in 1955. Their first major project was the pier in Scheveningen, which Apon had brought from the firm Van Tijen & Maaskant. In 1969, the ABBT firm was registered as an NV., which was later converted into a B.V. In 1986, the four-member management expanded to include J. van Dijk, J.A. Gijzen and A. van Wezel. In 1989 Apon/Van den Berg/Ter Braak/Tromp/Architekten BV merged with Achitektenbureau Blom BV in Rijsbergen, consisting of G.J.F. Blom and E.Th.A. van Overbeek. The office continued under the name De Nieuwe Kombinatie Blom/ABBT, but was handed over to architect Overbeek after about 1.5 years. The old employees were fired and the architects from ABBT withdrew as consultants to Blom. Personal data Dirk Cornelis [Dick] Apon was born in Rotterdam on June 7, 1926. He joined the firm Van Tijen & Maaskant in the 1950s. From 1970 he was professor of Architectural Design at the Department of Architecture of the Eindhoven University of Technology. Johan Arie van den Berg was born on June 5, 1923 in The Hague. Antonius Johannes [Toon] ter Braak was born on April 7, 1925 in Schiedam. He taught at the Academies of Architecture in Rotterdam and Amsterdam. He also taught architecture for the BNA examination twice (including in 1972). In addition, he was a member of 'recovery Brandersbuurt' in Schiedam. Willem Bastiaan [Wim] Tromp was born on March 23, 1917 in Leiden. He died in Rotterdam in 2001. Johannes van Dijk was born in Rotterdam on May 22, 1944. He attended Lager Technisch Onderwijs (1958-1959) and various evening Technical Education courses (1960-1961; 1965-1967; 1968-1970). Van Dijk was employed at ABBT from 1961 to 1990.
