Architect A.C. Boerma worked together with architect Wennekers. He also worked for the municipality of Amsterdam, where, for example, he had a share in the designs for the abattoir grounds (Veemarkt and Entrepot-West ). With Wennekers he made designs for, among other things, a renovation of the building Prinseneiland 153 (1895)
Boerma's works include the famous House with the Gnomes on Ceintuurbaan 251-255, the store building of the firm Lutkie & Smit on Nieuwendijk, the Order House of the Book Trade on Spuistraat, the Café 'De Bisschop' on the corner of Damrak, all in Amsterdam; and numerous renovations.
He also built many Roman Catholic churches and institutions, both in Amsterdam and elsewhere in the Netherlands.
