Pieter Mekkes (1887-1968), municipal supervisor, municipal architect, market master and harbor master in Zuidlaren. In the 1950 telephone directory, his name was followed by: town supervisor, fire department commander and market master. In 1941 Pieter Mekkes celebrated his 25th anniversary as an architect (Agrarisch Nieuwsblad 4-11-1941). He was secretary of the Teekenschool Zuidlaren and secretary of the Association for the Promotion of Craft Education in Drenthe, Zuidlaren Branch (Nieuwsblad van het Noorden 18-1-1930). In 1957 Pieter Mekkes celebrated his 40th anniversary as Market Master (Nieuwsblad van het Noorden 16-10-1957 with photo). In 1958, municipal architect T. Visser was appointed Market Master to succeed Pieter Mekkes. He lived in the self-designed residential house A 132, per 1-1-1941 Stationsweg 2, and per 30-10-1951 changed to Stationsweg 74 in Zuidlaren.
