Springer, Jacobus Bernardus
J.B. Springer (1854-1922)
Jacobus Bernardus Springer was a son of architect Willem Springer (1815-1907) and a brother of architect Johannes Ludovicus Springer (1850-1915). J.B. Springer was employed for many years as an architect in the Buildings Department of the Public Works Department Buildings Department of the Public Works Department, where he eventually gained the position of head of the department. In collaboration with his brother J.L. Springer (1850-1915) and with A.L. van Gendt (1835-1901), he built the Stadsschouwburg in Amsterdam. After the entry into service in 1907 of A.W. Bos (b. 1860) and in 1911 of J.M. van der Mey (1878-1949), Springer's views on architecture no longer suited the Department, and his resignation followed in 1915.
