G. van Heel graduates from the Academy of Architecture in Arnhem in June 1993. He is supervised during his graduation by Joan van Dooren, Mart Reys and Wim Korvinus. He also submits his graduation project "The Courthouse" for the Archiprix 1993, which earns him a shared first place. The Archiprix is a competition especially for designers who have just graduated. The competition aims to promote the influx of young talent into professional practice, offer them a presentation opportunity and contribute to the discussion about the quality of education. The jury rated Van Heel's entry "The Courthouse" as a "brilliant and original plan. The explanatory notes and the models together form a unity.'
