The Union of Dutch Urban Designers is founded on December 21, 1935. The initiators are M.J. Granpré Molière, Th. van Lohuizen, J. de Ranitz, D. Roosenburg, P.A.M. Siebers, A.J. van der Steur and P. Verhagen. In 1946, the BNS was reconstituted. Organs and task performance. \From about 1971, the regions of the BNS, and from 1979 the Division B, Urban Planning Offices, function. The BNS organizes study days, excursions and study trips. From 1990, in cooperation with NRC Handelsblad and the Faculty of Architecture at TU Delft, the BNS organizes the Van Eesteren Lecture, later the Van Eesteren Van Lohuizen Lecture. From 1967-1995, the BNS organizes the Pieter Verhagen Prize for theses, and later the BNSP Thesis Prize. The BNS also organizes (ideas) competitions several times and participates in the foundation that organizes the E.O. Wijers competition from 1984. The BNS also further participates in the Permanent Contest Committee. Members are informed from 1946 to 1967 via what are called 'outgoing stencils'. Beginning in 1972, these are called "member dispatches. From 1984, BNS Mededelingen is distributed. The magazine Profile is published from 1990-1992. It then merges into Blue Room Profile, from 1998 Blue Room. The BNS participates in the Plan Foundation, which publishes the magazine of the same name from 1970-1990. The BNS participates in various organizations and initiatives. See the section on participations, memberships, representations. There is also structural cooperation, such as within the Permanent Consultation, later 'Federation O' (BNA, BNS, BNT, BNI, ONRI and KIO). The Federation aims to promote the common interests of the member organizations, whereby the Federation puts the social responsibility with regard to the creation and maintenance of a liveable living environment first. There is also cooperation within the Stichting Ontwerpersverenigingen. Within this collaboration, the office and secretariat of BNI, BNS, BNT, IFI and KIO is run. In 1990, at its 11th anniversary, the BNS established the BNS 55 Foundation. Its aim is to promote the social significance and awareness of urban planning and the work of urban planners, and it aims to achieve this goal by organizing symposia, discussion meetings, exhibitions, competitions and other activities under the auspices of the BNS.
