A.H. Hondius-Crone (1893-1996) Ada Helena Crone was born into a well-to-do family in Amsterdam in 1893. Her father, Eduard Henrich Crone, co-founded the trading company H.G.Th. Crone. The firm imports agricultural products such as coffee, cocoa and kapok from the Dutch East Indies, and exports luxury goods and medical supplies to them. Ada Crone resides in Port de Cully (Switzerland, near Lausanne) during 1912-1913, where she attends French classes and lectures at the university. She married K. Müseler in 1914, but her husband soon died, in 1915. Under the name A. Müseler-Crone, she enrolled in the same year at the Quellinus School of Arts and Crafts in Amsterdam, earning the certificate "interior drawing" in 1918. In 1919 she marries A.E. von Saher, director of the Kunstnijverheidsschool in Haarlem and a curator at the nearby Kunstnijverheidsmuseum. In 1929 she divorced him and in 1935 she remarried, this time to archaeologist J.M. Hondius. It is not known whether Ada Hondius-Crone was able to cash in on her artistic interest and her training in interior drawing. However, she was active in the women's and peace movements and invested in her own interests by taking college courses in history, art, archaeology and ancient and modern languages. Hondius-Crone died in 1996 in Voorschoten.
