The Stichting Goed Wonen in Amsterdam existed under this name from 1946 to 1968, then as "Stichting Wonen" until 1988. The purpose of the foundation was: To raise living in the Netherlands to a higher level by improving home furnishing in the broadest sense of the word, by promoting the production and distribution of furniture, upholstery, utensils, etc., which meet certain aesthetic, technical and social requirements.An oak smoking chair is wrong; rattan furniture is right. Floral wallpaper and heavy curtains are wrong; white walls and fresh shades are right! With such instructions, in the late 1940s, the foundation aimed to free Dutch interiors from bad taste. "Taste is a matter of education," was the thought behind the foundation's establishment in 1946. With model homes and in a magazine, the foundation promoted modern interiors. With light furniture in a sleek layout, residents at home could get the most out of their homes and thus themselves. To save space, Goed Wonen's furniture and utensils often had multiple functions. The ideas fitted well with the sleek architectural style of the New Building. Improving homes and furnishings would make people better. And eventually society. The housewife received much attention.
