The Nederlands Verbond van Vakverenigingen (NVV) was a trade union federation founded on Jan. 1, 1906, by fifteen trade unions. In 1977, the NVV merged with the Nederlands Katholiek Vakverbond into the FNV. The NVV was part of the socialist column. The founding of the NVV stemmed from the railroad strikes of 1903. Its first chairman was Henri Polak, also chairman of the Algemene Nederlandse Diamantbewerkersbond. During World War II, after several years of collaboration with the National Socialist regime, the NVV was dissolved for about three years. Its possessions and assets were taken over by the newly established trade union movement Nederlands Arbeidsfront, which was modelled on the German model. NSB member Henk Woudenberg, who had been chairman of the NVV from 1940 to 1942, went on to lead the Nederlands Arbeidsfront.
