A town hall reflects the status and prosperity of a city. Amersfoort has had several town halls in its 750-year history. Amersfoort was granted city rights in 1259, but it is still unknown whether the young city had a city hall right then. Recent archaeological and historical research has revealed many different new facts about the - probably - earliest town hall on the Hof. Also the later town halls, the "Old Town Hall" on the Westsingel and the current town hall with its extensions, are now described systematically for the first time. The building history of these town halls and also the plans that were never carried out are clearly explained in this publication.
