On the initiative of the city council, an extensive exhibition of modern interior art was organized at the Stedelijk Museum of Amsterdam at the end of 1939 with various subjects such as a children's playroom, bookstore, an office etc. Artists were also involved for murals, carpets, posters and the like. The architectural direction of the exhibition was assigned to architect J. Niegeman. The exhibition was postponed for the time being due to events in May. The design of rooms 1 through 7 was provided by a working group of architects including: M. Stam, L. Stam-Beese, I. Falkenberg-Liefrinck, K. Limperg, B. Neter, and J. and G. Niegeman. Room 4 contained a maquette of a design by L. Stam-Beese herself.
