Verschuuren, Nel
Interior designer Nel Verschuuren (1943-2016) was a partner in the firm Kho Liang Ie Associates. She received her education at the Academie voor Kunst en Vormgeving St. Joost in Breda. In 1965, she joined Kho Liang Ie, with whom she founded the firm in 1968 (together with Tinus van de Kerkhof).
Verschuuren received several awards for her work: in 1986 she received the Mart Stamp Prize, in 1998 the Piet Zwart Prize. Her memberships included the Council for Culture, the Fund for Visual Arts, Design and Architecture and the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts. After Kho's death due to illness in 1975, she continued the agency together with her (life) partner Tinus van de Kerkhof (1937). From 2005 she gradually ends the agency, due to her age and due to the degree of care Van de Kerkhof needs due to illness.
Verschuuren has played an important social role in the field of design. She was president of the BNI (Union of Dutch Interior Architects) from 1975 to 1992.
