W.L. (Willy) Brusse started a publishing company in the city of Rotterdam in 1895. This publishing house was called "W.L.Brusse Uitgevers Maatschappij" and was located at the "Diergaarde Singel". In 1903, his brother Johan joined him as a partner and the company was renamed "W.L. & J. Brusse Uitgevers Maatschappij." This company published most of the books written by their other brother M.J. (Rie) Brusse, the well-known Dutch journalist and writer. Willy was a supporter of the Dutch Communist Party in the 1930s. He wrote articles for the Dutch-Soviet underground newspaper "De Nieuwe Tijd."
