LIFE AND WORK WIM DEN BOON 1912 Born March 12 in Waddinxveen. 1924-1929 Student at the Hogere Handelsschool in Rotterdam. 1929-1941 Worked at Unilever and involved in organizing and building exhibitions. 1941-1945 Student at the Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague, interior design department. At the Academy, Groep & originates with Hein Stolle and Pierre Kleykamp. Group & also acts as a 'working group on new architecture' together with Honoré Ritter. 1946 Groep & participates in a number of competitions with furniture and interior designs. A number of these designs are realized. Groep & renovates the home of Academy teacher Kees Hos in The Hague. In the Gemeentemuseum of The Hague, Groep & sets up the exhibition 'The Hague builds up'. 1947 Groep & exhibits furniture at 'my home', later Bas van Pelt, in The Hague. 1948 Group & designs the interior and furniture for Schiphol's international departure hall. Group & designs the interior and furniture for the waiting room of Thomsen's harbor company in Rotterdam, architects Brinkman and Van den Broek. Den Boon becomes editorial secretary of the magazine Goed Wonen. A number of Group & furniture pieces are included in the Goed Wonen furniture collection. Den Boon holds many lectures around the country on interior design and architecture and sets up a number of model homes. 1949 Group & furniture is part of the Dutch entry to the Salon des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. 1950 Den Boon breaks with Goed wonen. Together with Dora Mees and J.W. Jansen, he founds the Mens en Huis foundation. Group & falls apart. Den Boon establishes himself as an interior designer in The Hague. Designs various pieces of upholstered furniture for Jonkers furniture industry in Wezep; a wicker armchair for Jonkers brothers in Noordwolde. 1950-1952 Designs interiors in Velp, Amstelveen and Meppel. Man and House organizes the exhibition "Man and House" at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. The same exhibition was subsequently shown at the Gemeentemuseum of The Hague. Under the auspices of the Hague Cultural Society, Cor Alons, Den Boon, J.J. Caspers and J.W. Jansen set up 'Woon Goed': an exhibition at the Academy of Visual Arts in The Hague. 1953 Rebuilds the meeting center of the Nijmegen Student Corps. Renovates a house in Joure and a notary's office in The Hague. 1954 Renovates a house in Reeuwijk. Refurbishes the headquarters of the Coöperatieve Melk Centrale in The Hague. Refurbishes houses in Amstelveen and Scheveningen. Designs two houses for Alblasserdam and Arnhem. Trip to Morocco (indigenous architecture), Spain (Gaudi) and France (Le Corbusier). 1955 Various small projects in The Hague. Rebuilds a house in Hilversum, the Huygens Pharmacy in Voorburg (now demolished) and the Haags Hervormd Weeshuis in The Hague. Trip to Scandinavia, where he visits works by Aalto, among others. 1956 Builds a house in Reeuwijk and in Wageningen. Rebuilds an office in Rotterdam and a hall in The Hague for Youth Church Work of the Reformed Congregation. 1957 Rebuilds houses in Reeuwijk, Kerkrade, Wassenaar, The Hague, Purmerend. Rebuilds part of the Bethel Church in The Hague. Designs a stand for the Dutch Reformed Church for the Ladies' Fair in The Hague. Trip to Greece. 1958 Rebuilds a pharmacy in Voorburg and a house in Bennebroek. 1959 Rebuilds an office in The Hague, houses in The Hague and Amstelveen. Rebuilds the Reformed parsonage in Okkenbroek. 1960 Rebuilds a house in Voorburg. Designs a country house in Tiel. 1961 Converts a house in Rotterdam into a medical practice and residence. Transforms a house in The Hague. 1962 Designs the first of a series of fantasy houses, the Torenhuis. Remodels houses in The Hague, Nijmegen. Builds a villa in Rotterdam. Rebuilds an office in The Hague. Sails his canoe around Corsica. 1963 Rebuilds houses in Voorschoten, Leiden, Axel, Poortugaal and Reeuwijk. Designs a vacation home for Elbo, Corsica (not executed). 1964 Restores a building in The Hague and converts it into an office for N.B.M. Converts a house in Rotterdam. Furnishes a residence in Barendrecht and an apartment for the elderly in The Hague. Designs a series of houses for the staff of Caltex in Abbenbroek. These are not executed because they are considered too progressive. Designs a factory and a residence in Hellevoetsluis. Refurbishes houses in The Hague, Leidschendam and Zevenaar. 1965 Rebuilds an office in The Hague (N.B.M.). Refurbishes houses in Wassenaar, Voorburg and Axel. Designs the Gangenhuis. Takes trip through England, during which he suffers a serious accident. 1966 Together with Dick van Woerkom, renovates a house in Leersum. Further renovates houses in Rijswijk and Rotterdam. Renovates the Donker pharmacy in Oss. Falls seriously ill, but recovers. Renovates houses in Leidschendam, Raadwijk municipality Heteren, Leiden, Wassenaar. Furnishes a model home in Zoetermeer. Designs a house in Oudorp. 1967 Refurbishes homes in The Hague, Laren, Rijswijk, Wassenaar, Voorburg and Gouda. Designs a chalet in Obergesteln, Austria. Designs the House with the Leaning Walls, a fantasy house. 1968 Converts a house in Rotterdam; a house in Leiden into a lawyer's office and residence. Designs a house in Gouderak. Becomes seriously ill again. Dies Sept. 1, 1968.
