D. van Woerkom (1924-1987) Dick van Woerkom was born in Rangoon on April 24, 1924. He attended the MTS in The Hague and Haarlem during World War II. After the war, he completed his education at the Technical High School in Delft and the Academy of Architecture in Amsterdam. Initially he worked as an architectural draftsman at the offices of A. Komter and Merkelbach & Elling in Amsterdam, but in 1955 he established himself as an independent architect in Amsterdam. Van Woerkom had very explicit views on architecture. He wanted to continue the tradition of De Stijl. Partly for this reason, he collaborated with the visual artist Joost Baljeu on a number of projects. Van Woerkom does not have a large body of work to his name. His significance is of a theoretical rather than a practical nature. He died on September 18, 1987.
