Hartsuyker Architects

Hartsuyker Architects B.V. In 1960, Enrico and Luzia started their own firm together, which was officially named Hartsuyker Architecten B.V. in 1981. Together they are the hub of the firm, which also employs a number of freelance workers. Luzia specializes primarily in residential construction, while Enrico is in charge of non-residential construction in addition to residential construction. The firm performs work in various fields: urban planning, residential construction, social/cultural buildings, commercial buildings, traffic construction and renovations. Characteristic of the designs is the attention for the coherence of the buildings and their surroundings, the far-reaching elaboration of the mutual relationship between the various spaces within the building and the attunement of all architectural elements to man and his way of life in his living environment. The firm made its name with a number of studies in the field of urban planning and housing. For example, the Hartsuykers designed Biopolis and Hydrobiopolis, "housing 1974" and four housing types that could serve as the basis for specific designs: the walking house, the screw house, the open-hearth house and the flexible habitable house. In 1996, the Hartsuykers cease their design work for the firm. The firm is continued by Subash Taneja, who had long worked for the firm as an architect, in recent years as co-director. However, the Hartsuykers remain associated with the firm as consultants for several more years.
