In 1952, De Vlaming started his own firm in Amsterdam. In 1957, Salm joined as a partner. In 1967, the partnership was expanded to include Mr. Fennis. The partnership was converted into a private limited company in 1975. In 1981 the management was expanded with ir. Dingemans. In the same year a branch was opened in Utrecht. A separate BV. was established for interior designs, under the name De Vlaming, Salm & Fennis Interiors BV. Among other things, the firm designed ship interiors for the Holland-America Line. In the 1970s, the firm did renovations on the Volendam (Deurvorst) and the Veendam (bureau). In the 1980s, De Vlaming designed interiors for sister ships "Nieuw Amsterdam" and "Noordam." De Vlaming also lectured on the subject. Designing ship interiors was later taken over by Dingemans. In 1987, Salm retired from the firm. Today the firm is based in Utrecht under the name VFD Architects BV. (De Vlaming, Fennis & Dingemans). Most projects are made in joint labor. The inventory does indicate, if known, which architect was in charge of the assignment.
