F. Kuipers (1871-1954) All three of the reformed Kuipers brothers, Roelof (1855-1922), Tjeerd (1857-1942) and Foeke (1871-1954) followed in the footsteps of their father, who was a carpenter-contractor, as an architect. The archive at the NAI is fragmentary in nature and includes drawings and sketches by Tjeerd Kuipers, and the album "Foeke Kuipers collected works 1899-1941," which was compiled by his family on the occasion of his seventieth birthday. In addition, the NAI owns a painted portrait of Foeke Kuipers. Tjeerd Kuipers developed into a much sought-after church builder in Reformed circles. Foeke Kuipers, Tjeerd's much younger brother, builds for the secular market throughout his career. He received his education from Prof. J.F. Klinkhamer at the Quellinusschool in Amsterdam, where he obtained the silver medal, the highest distinction. One of his first works was the warehouse Het Nederlandsche Veem on the Van Diemenstraat in Amsterdam (1899), which he designed with his brother Roelof. Foeke builds many villas, mostly in cottage style. However, the villa 'Meer en Berg' in Heemstede (1908) has a classicist style. Kuipers' strength, however, lies mainly in utility construction, which can be seen in his designs for the concert hall for Het Groot Badhuis in Zandvoort (1906), the Polderhuis in Hoofddorp (1912), Café-Restaurant 'De Roode Leeuw' on the Damrak in Amsterdam (1911-1912), the association building 'Industria' in Amsterdam School style for the 'Industrieele Club' on the Dam in Amsterdam (1913-1916) and the Central building for the AMVJ, the Amsterdam Society for Young Men, on the Stadhouderskade in Amsterdam (1928). His last design in non-residential construction was the Eastern Swimming Pool on Gerdesiaweg in Rotterdam (1932), which has since been declared a national monument.
