Klinkhamer began as an independent architect in 1882 in Amsterdam. The address is unknown, but in 1990 he moved his office to the residence he designed on Willemsparkweg, also in Amsterdam. In 1892 Bert Johan Ouëndag joined him, having previously worked for city architect Jan Springer. In 1899 Klinkhamer was asked to become Professor at the Polytechnic School in Delft and associated himself with Ouëndag so that he could continue the office. Until 1905 drawings were signed by both architects, from 1905 only by Ouëndag. From 1927 (a year before Klinkhamer's death) Ouëndag continued the office with his son, ir. Willem Bert Ouëndag. The latter continued the bureau with ir. T Zwiers, who in turn associated with ir. E. Fontijn (dates unknown).
