The lectures were held in June 1941 at Doorn at the 1st lecture under the auspices of A. et A. on the subject of 'De Nederlandsche bouwkunst'. The Netherlands is under German occupation and Berghoef's summary indicates what Dutch (national) individuality means. Besides race, religion and language, it is mainly the spiritual property, determined in the Netherlands by realism and civility, (cultural sense of freedom and tolerance (ethical), sobriety and piety.
