This article is an account of the official opening ceremonies on May 17, 1949 of the Construction Center as an international institute. The article gives an account of the festivities (photos of festivities) and then describes in full the opening speech by architect prof.ir. H.T. Zwiers, who in his speech thanked the contractor, the Bataafsche Aanneming Maatschappij, the architect, J.W.C. Boks and the director of the Bouwcentrum, architect J. van Ettinger, and furthermore the content is given of the speeches the foreign speakers and of Prime Minister Dr. W. Drees, read by Minister of Reconstruction Dr. J. in 't Veld. Also given in this piece is an account of the visit of Queen Juliana (photo) to the Bouwcentrum on May 18, Reconstruction Day in Rotterdam.
