D. Zuiderhoek (1911-1993)
David Zuiderhoek (November 26, 1911) was educated at the Industrieschool voor Bouwkunde in Amsterdam (1927-1933) and the Amsterdamse Bouwkunstacademie (HBO) (1933-1937). He then worked at several architectural firms. With Jantzen in Amsterdam, who specialized in the construction of churches, he worked as an architectural draftsman and supervisor. At Eschauzier, who worked a lot in the "luxury" sphere, he worked as an architectural draftsman and architect, and at Verhagen and Kok he worked as an architect. In the latter position, he worked a lot on workers' housing.
After 1945, Zuiderhoek received a request to become the city architect of Amersfoort. Zuiderhoek accepted the position because it gave him the opportunity to realize his ideas. Urban planning and architecture were inseparable for him. On this basis, the neighborhoods around the old city center of Amersfoort, the Soesterkwartier, Leusderkwartier and Kruiskamp, were created. Zuiderhoek also designed for other cities, including the reconstruction district of Presikhaaf III in Arnhem.
David Zuiderhoek died in Amersfoort on October 5, 1993.
